STORY

"Born in Canada, she’s spent the past four years between Montreal, Thessaloniki, Barcelona, and Hamburg, collecting stories through photography, writing, drawing, and video. Her work explores two often-avoided themes; eroticism and death, using her own body and experiences as raw material."

"Before she was an art student, she was a wildfire fighter in British Columbia, a film set assistant in Vancouver, and a skydiving photographer in Brazil. Every image she makes carries the residue of physical experience, of having been somewhere uncomfortable and bringing something back."

"Currently finishing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at HFBK Hamburg, she's planning her next chapter: photography projects in Canada and collaborations in Mexico. The work keeps moving because she does."

FAQ

Eva, why do you photograph abandoned places?

I love photographing abandoned places because they show how nature can take over and adapt to its environment. In this process, a place is given a new purpose. It maybe wasn’t its intended purpose, though it now serves its new situation.

Why Photography?

I use photography to show a new perspective. Photography gives us a new way to look at things, and highlights an appreciation of something. I also see photography as a study; a visual study of the world, an interest or an obsession of something.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from an obsessive urge to photograph something. I don't fully understand this urge, but just know I need to photograph it.

What does the creative process feel like for you?

In the process of photographing, I feel a lot of excitement and focused energy. Lots of time can pass while I'm photographing something and I won't notice because I'm so focused on finding, in my view, the perfect angle of photography.

What themes or subjects tend to inspire your photography?

Some themes that tend to repetitively inspire me; are intimate and sensual movements, abandoned places, death, animals and water.

Why do you take erotic photos?

I am attracted to erotic and intimate photography because they seem like a visual poem, a diary, or something very sacred and special, and also fun and playful. I also appreciate taking pictures of confident people, who enjoy moving and being themselves in their bodies, this sense of self is very attractive.

What’s next for you?

This year I am planning to take nature photography in a holy light, in the deserts of Mexico, the arctic desert of Northern Canada and also in the forests. I am continuing collaborations for different photo shoots, especially spooky and sensual ones. I continue to photograph abandoned places and abandoned pools everywhere I go, especially at night.

Are you open to collaborations?

I am so grateful to how art brings people together, and I am always trying to make my practice more collective and collaborative. Creativity thrives in connection. Please feel free to message me about a collaboration. I am open to travel for collaborations as well.
